There is Strength in Our Stories: Austin James

Austin James

i could tell that you had confused
my hands for his
my arms for his
my legs for his
had intertwined his body and mine
had drawn parallels
between my tongue and his
my soul and his
my touch and his
and at first
i did not represent another
i represented him
but i didn’t touch you the way he did
didn’t look at you the way he did
didn’t kiss you way the way he did
and slowly you realized
that i was not him
i was me
and i was not going to hurt you
the way he did

Austin James is a 19-year-old avid writer and poet with a strange obsession for the human experience. He began writing stories from a young age and has always been fascinated and awed at the ways in which people experience emotions. He began writing poetry to try and capture the way he was feeling at a particular moment in time, like a photograph.
